A circular economy is a world without waste and focused on the optimal use and reuse of raw materials, from resource extraction to consumption. Raw materials are at risk of becoming scarce due to a growing population and increasing prosperity in the world. This makes it increasingly important to use the available raw materials as efficiently as possible. This also creates new opportunities for companies: new markets, more cooperation and less consumption of raw materials. According to the European Commission, the transition to a circular economy is 'the opportunity to transform our economy and generate new and sustainable competitive advantages for Europe.
The transition to a circular economy offers economic opportunities for the Netherlands.
It makes the Netherlands less dependent on the import of scarce raw materials.
It contributes to a cleaner environment.
In a circular economy raw materials are used optimally. Which means that they are always used with the highest value for the economy and the least damage to the environment.
A linear economy is a take-make-waste economy, in which unrestrained use is made of raw materials from which products are made that are thrown away again after use. In contrast, in a circular economy, re-duce, re-use and re-cycle are central. The core of this economy is the reuse of products and raw materials, and the prevention of waste and harmful emissions to soil, water and air.
In Europe, the Netherlands can almost be seen as a densely populated city with good infrastructure, mainports and logistics. This creates good conditions for a circular economy. As a result, products (such as cars) can be shared more easily and residual streams put to industrial use more easily.
The Netherlands took early measures to reduce landfilling. Partly because of this, it has one of the highest recycling rates in Europe. The Netherlands has a great deal of knowledge about separation technology and the logistical system surrounding waste collection and recycling. This experience and knowledge can be used in the further development of a circular economy in the Netherlands but also abroad. In addition, many raw materials are transported through the Netherlands, making our country suitable as a pivot point (raw materials traffic circle).
Knapzak helps companies to meet the legal, social and own standards regarding the circular economy. Within the domain of waste processing, the contribution of Knapzak is essential; we deliver inventive solutions to companies to collect waste efficiently, enabling them to work in a sustainable and socially responsible way. Our high quality products help companies to separate waste at the source and therefore produce less residual waste (re-duce). From the collected material, raw materials are made for new products (recycling).
In addition, in the production of its bags, Knapzak also contributes to a circular economy, as our bags consist largely of recycled material. In the future we will have (almost) exclusively circular products.
